I was shown the future

About 5 years ago I saw a presenation given by some analyst in a small London office building. He spent the best part of 2 hours predicting how the world was going to change and how the big players we knew so well would morph into something not as good and not as great.

Now I sit here 5 years later and realise that much of what he predicted is now with us today. The way we are doing business, the birth of Web 2.0, the shift in the underlying technology are all with us.

Did he read the future?

How did he know?

In any event, the online world is now very different to what it was in 2002.

But that was only half of the story. What makes me think is the stuff he discussed that has not yet happened but will do soon and this is where my blog plays a role.

My interest is in this shift in our online world. Myspace, Facebook, Youtube all seem great but are they just a means to an end? Companies that “do no evil” are suddenly not quite so nice as we once thought.

 Think about it!

Do we really think all that free disk space will contine to be free? Remember Hotmail and how suddenly things started to be charged for?
