Lighter than light

So you may recall that for next weeks trip to Barcelona, I am taking just one regulation sized carry on piece of luggage.

So we now have said regulation sized case which is in the form of a Samsonite Cruisair hard case picked up for sensible money at the Samsonite factory store near Oxford. But now we have to try and fit everything inside it because is is pretty small.

So clothes are OK but there is the not so small matter of my Dell D630 laptop which takes up a lot of that space and weight.

So enter my new toy.

The Asus EEE PC 701 is a real laptop. It has an Intel CPU and mine now has 2GB or RAM and a 4GB solid state HDD with an additional 8GB storage in the form of an SDHC card. It is running Windows XP with Office 2007 and all my connectivity stuff like iPass and my VPN client as well as my corporate softphone and the best bit is this

So the good news now is that I can carry all my IT needs with me without the space and weight problems.

Now to be fair, I would not like to have to write a large document on such a small (600×400) display or keyboard but for the odd trip where traveling light is everything, this is perfect.

So a full review to come on this soon as so far I am very impressed with this bit of kit.
