2011 – Well?

So back in January I blogged These are not my New Years resolutions and set out what I wanted to achieve and see in the coming 12 months and here we are at the end of 2011 so lets have a look at how the year turned out.

I wanted to travel more

I said as a family but also just on my own. I think it is fair to say this was a resounding success.

In April as a family we had Four amazing days in Prague

Prague 2011

In May work took me to a convention centre in Madrid Continue reading

Frankfurt Christmas Market (in Birmingham)

Last year I got told about the Frankfurt Christmas Market.

To be fair, it is a fairly typical German Market that you find in most German towns and cities at this time of the year with one noticable difference. About 10 years ago, somebody came up with the bright idea of lifting the whole thing up and moving it (and it’s stall holders) to Birmingham! Continue reading

Vienna in 30 minutes

This year I have been on a number of trips abroad. Prague and Madrid in the Spring, Amsterdam and Charente (France) in the Summer, Brugge last month and now Vienna this week.

The problem is however that when I travel on business rather than pleasure, whilst I may have officially visited a place, I may not have actually seen it. In the case of Madrid my visit was limited to the airport and the conference centre next to the airport. It could just have easily been Milton Keynes but with sunshine.

So this week I have been to Vienna. Even though it was hovering around zero degrees, I took the time to wrap up warm and head out into the city to see what was there. From getting off the metro to getting back on again was less than 30 minutes which is clearly not enough time to experience Vienna but at least I can now say I have seen it.

Vienna is without doubt a very pretty city and hopefully somewhere I can return to at a later date to spend a bit longer than a lunch hour exploring. In the meantime, here are a handful photos I took in my 30 minute city tour.

As usual, all the photos from my trip (including the conference itself) can be found over in my online photo album here.

Brugge – October 2011

So armed with a spare set of Eurotunnel tickets a trip was called for.

This time, Brugge in Belgium which is only 90 minutes drive up the motorway from Calais.

It is a very pretty city and fun to wander around. We stayed in the Crowne Plaza hotel which was right in the centre (and not the easiest place to get to by car) where we had a good nights sleep before having waffles for breakfast, a bit more exploring and then back home (via the Calais duty free shops).

As usual, all the photos that I took are over on my Photo Album.

As an experiment however for this trip I left my Sony DSLR camera at home and used on the camera on my Samsung Galaxy SII phone and was quite surprised with the outcome.

Enjoy
