Vienna in 30 minutes

So this week I have been to Vienna. Even though it was hovering around zero degrees, I took the time to wrap up warm and head out into the city to see what was there. From getting off the metro to getting back on again was less than 30 minutes which is clearly not enough time to experience Vienna but at least I can now say I have seen it.

Do you trust your hotel room safe? Think again

I came across this video the other day on YouTube whilst actually sitting in my hotel room.

I did check it out and found that my hotel had a very different make of safe to the one shown in the video. I have however seen the shown model in hotels I have stayed in, but in the UK at least they are quite rare.

So the safe in my hotel room could not be opened by an all zero code but that does not say their isn’t a master code known by all the staff.

In any case however it is clearly a potential problem and one any traveller should be aware of. I did post the video on Facebook and a friend did come back and suggest one of these.

So be careful out there people.

Amsterdam [Photos]

I managed to grab a few days in Amsterdam last week and just take some time out to explore the city.

As usual, all the photos I took can be found here, however here is a selection of images to get you started. Read more

Four Days In Prague

I went to Prague back in 2007. At the time, the stag trade had just left town as Easyjet headed further east and the city was adjusting to a new tourist trade. Back then I saw the city for what it was with it’s long and varied history that reflected in it’s architecture and its people.

So it’s five years later, the sun is out, the blossom is on the trees and we are back in Prague. This time there is my wife Teresa and Sam who is now eight. Again, I did promise that we would travel more at the start of the year didn’t I?

In this post I will share some of the images that stand out but do follow the links through to my photo album where there are dozens more photos that really do capture the time spent in what is a truly pretty city. Read more

My name is Mark and I am an impulse traveller

Yes I have to admit it. I have done it again.

There I was having a conversation with Teresa and before you know it I am booking airline tickets.

This is going to get me into a load of trouble soon as so far I have travelled on impulse to Disneyland Paris, Scotland, Prague and even New York. Each prompted by nothing more than a passing conversation followed by a quick look on the internet and a comment to Teresa like “do you fancy going to New York to do some shopping in a few weeks”!!!

This is dangerous.

So where now?

Well Christmas is coming up and wanting to get into the whole Christmas spirit, we (all of us) are off to Berlin for a few days to check out the famous Christmas markets. This time yesterday we had not even contemplated going away and here I am now with the plane tickets in my hand.

I must stop doing this!
